Having gone through the process a few times now, I decided to make life a little easier for myself and anyone else who happens by this site. As a Health Physicist, jobs were historically few and far between. Athough prospects have improved recently, positions are still not common in many areas. Therefore, I have collected a list of sites that might possibly offer health physics or related positions. The list includes government, universities, industry, consulting, laboratory, medical, and international organizations. Of course, these organizations offer many more positions than simply health physics, so if you are looking for any type of position that would be offered with one of these organizations, feel free to peruse the sites. Health Physics: The profession dedicated to the protection of humans and their environment from the harmful effects of both ionizing and non-ionizing radiation while providing for its beneficial uses. Health Physics is an interdisciplinary science that combines the elements of physics, biology, chemistry, and statistics, in the evaluation and improvement of practices involving radiation producing machines and radioactive materials with the goal of optimizing system performance with respect to human health and safety, ecomomy and stewardship of the environment The educational objectives of the ISU Health Physics program are to produce Health Physicists with: 1) broad, fundamental technical knowledge 2) written and verbal communication skills 3) professional judgement and capability to think critically 4) practical experience in solving applied health-physics problems 5) the ability to work independently 6) a professional ethic of magnitude sufficient for them to productively and successfully work in a variety of health physics settings.
