43. Raiza Engineering Software
Site contains articles, software and other computer applications for the design, evaluation and analysis of hvac systems.
Applying 40 + years of design and project management experience with a major consulting engineering firm, I create software and applications relating to mechanical systems (HVAC, psychrometrics, piping, plumbing, etc.) for non-residential buildings (plus a few unrelated to engineering). You will find that my programs are innovative and unique from others and are created with your needs to do your job faster and better as the primary objective.
Some of my programs are written in Microsoft Visual Basic for stand-alone executable Windows programs. Other applications use Microsoft Office programs such as Excel - with inovative use of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). To find out more about these applications click on the "Programs" link. Articles:
In addition to computer programs and applications, I have provided several articles relating to HVAC systems that you should find informative. Just click on the link to "Articles" and browse the topics. Links:

Autodesk Building Systems 3 allows you to generate three-dimensional models for coordination and planning and two-dimensional building plans for normal day-to-day operations. A 3D rendering of equipment, piping and ductwork shows spatial requirements at a glance, which makes it easier to communicate design intent with other design team members. This single, stand-alone solution provides flexible tools to quickly and easily create precise digital models of mechanical, electrical and plumbing building systems. A number of enhanced features improve accuracy and reduce the time needed to manually control coordination of construction documentation. For example, engineers can now design duct and pipe runs more quickly by using the application's suggested solutions to layout problems that use predefined paths. Interference detection capabilities also save time by helping detect clashes among mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and the architectural structure.

Proctor Engineering Group
HVAC/Duct System History
Proctor Engineering Group has been doing engineering and program development work on heat pumps and on HVAC/air distribution systems for 16 years. In the course of our work with HVAC systems, we have uncovered a consistent series of problems:
  • A large majority of systems (95%) had duct leakage which exceeds 150 CFM
  • Air flow measured across the indoor coil was deficient by more than 50 CFM/Ton in 65% of the systems.
  • Refrigerant charge was incorrect in most of the systems. From 19 to 27% of the systems are undercharged and from 27 to 36% of the systems are overcharged.
We combine engineering knowledge with practical field experience to ensure that project results have the highest quality possible. We regularly upgrade our knowledge base and improve our models to reflect the most recent information. This allows us to provide our clients with cost-effective solutions which address and resolve their problems.
Proctor Engineering Group's HVAC/Duct System History
  • - In a study of low income weatherization customers, 17% of the distribution systems had disconnected ducts. From that time to the present, over 200,000 systems have been treated with a program that includes duct sealing.

Duct Leakage to Outside. (Flow Hood Method)
Duct leakage exceeded 150 CFM 50 in 96% of the systems.
Low Air Flow
Air flow measured across the indoor coil was deficient by more than 50 CFM/Ton on 24% of the systems. Sample size- 175 systems.
Refrigerant Charge
Systems were found to be undercharged in 19% of the sample. Thirty-six percent of units were overcharged and 45% correctly charged..
