Young Investigator Medical Imaging Science Award

DESCRIPTION:
This award is given in odd-numbered years to a young investigator in recognition of significant and innovative technical contributions to the field of medical imaging science. The prize, consisting of $1,000 and a plaque, is awarded at the IEEE Medical Imaging Conference.
ELIGIBILITY:
In accordance with the IEEE TAB Awards Manual, eligibility is restricted to: "Graduate students, or other individuals, whose highest degree was awarded within six years prior to the date of nomination."
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Nominees will be judged according to their contributions to medical imaging science as demonstrated by the technical merit and creativity of their research. Priority will be given to nominees whose research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, especially if the nominee is first author.

Hyperspectral Imaging Science Applications are invited for up to three Graduate Research Assistantships for students to work in the MTU Hyperspectral Imaging laboratory and to pursue PhD thesis research under the supervision of Dr. J. Bruce Rafert, on studies involving both hyperspectral instrumentation and hyperspectral data exploitation. Successful applicants will posses a strong background in physics, mathematics, optical system design and/or signal processing. A strong interest in hyperspectral imaging and remote sensing is required. Experience with IDL, ENVI, IRAF, data reduction, and/or analysis of imaging and spectroscopic data is desirable. A stipend of $15,000-$19,000 per year (depending on qualifications) is provided as well as full tuition and fee support. Students from both U.S. and foreign universities are eligible to apply. Imaging Science Foundation Reference DVD Citation Program Last Update The Imaging Science Foundation (ISF) has established a DVD citation program. ISF selects reference quality DVDs for citation by ISF in their print media advertisements. Currently, ISF runs ads in Stereophile Guide to Home Theater, Home Theater Magazine, The Robb Report, and Audio-Video Interiors. The ISF Reference DVD Selection program attempts to promote the highest quality standards for DVD production. We hope that ISF citation will contribute to public awareness of the differences in DVD production.
ISF is very influential in the set-up of display devices at various professional and consumer home theater shows. Often selection of display material is recommended to manufacturers by ISF. ISF is dedicated to improving display standards through education of professionals and consumers. ISF conducts private seminars and product evaluations. Clients include Bose, Electrohome, Faroudja, Hughes/JVC, Krell, Marantz, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Philips, Runco, Sharp, Texas Instruments, Toshiba, Yamaha, and others.

[1] several Postdoctoral fellowships (2 yrs) are available for suitably qualified individuals in the development and application of NMR to a range of questions relevant to cancer, neuroscience and cardiovascular imaging, in small animals and human studies. Areas of interest include relaxation, perfusion and diffusion in tissues; diffusion tensor imaging and fiber tracking in brain; physiology relevant to BOLD imaging; development of in vivo MRS and MRI in transgenic mouse models; studies of tumor development and response; and studies of novel contrast agents. ( Other areas of application are also of interest. ) These research areas and others will be supported by three small animal NMR scanners/spectrometers (4.7T/310, 7T/160, 9.4T/210), as well as 3T (currently) and 7T (future) research-dedicated human MRI systems.
[2] a Postdoctoral / research faculty position is available for a suitably qualified individual to develop and support applications of micro-PET and pinhole gamma imaging in mouse and rat models, especially related to cancer imaging. This is a new facility that will interface with other imaging modalities (MRI, CT, optical) and we are seeking an imaging specialist to develop research collaborations using PET with interested users.

Carlson Center for Imaging Science (CIS). CIS is an interdisciplinary academic unit within the College of Science that offers programs leading to BS, MS and Ph.D. degrees in Imaging Science and an MS in Color Science. The Center is involved in basic and applied research in sciences that use imaging methods, and in the development of associated instrumentation, algorithms, and techniques. Areas of research interest in the CIS include astronomy, remote sensing, color science, medical imaging and aspects of digital image capture, output, and analysis. These activities are supported by sources in government, at foundations, and in industry.
The Director is the Chief Administrative Officer of CIS and reports directly to the Dean of the College of Science. Introduction
I appreciate the opportunity to return to the Rochester Institute of Technology to address the Industrial Associates of the Center for Imaging Science. The Photographic Science program here at RIT was a wonderful experience that provided me with the educational background for a very successful career in imaging and information systems. I welcome the opportunity to provide you with some of the insights I have gained in the areas of space systems, information systems, and technology in the 20 years since I graduated. During my career in the government as a development manager of space systems for national security, I have had the distinct privilege to help focus leading edge technologies on the toughest engineering challenges. Challenges that are many times driven by people's insatiable need for informationinformation that will allow them to make timely, informed decisions. Time is money and information saves time. The technologies that we are developing will serve as the basis for cost-effective, mission-effective solutions to the myriad of challenges we face. The development of key technologies will be necessary to help meet our ever-increasing needs these technologies will allow us to address those needs in a cost-effective manner.

The Imaging Science Foundation and The Home Acoustics Alliance
4-Day Training and Certification Seminar The Sencore sponsored 4-day training seminar was held on February 22nd through February 25th, 2001 at the Volutone facility located in Cerritos, California. The seminar included 2 days of ISF training and 2 days of HAA training. Attendees received a vast amount of knowledge in the area of video setup and calibration as well as acoustic theory and practical applications. The seminar included hands-on experience with some of the latest Sencore test equipment. The Sencore CP288 Color Analyzer and VP300 Multimedia Generator were used during the ISF training. The SP295 Audio Analyzer was used for acoustical analysis during the HAA training. After spending hours with the Sencore equipment during and after the seminar, one thing became clear to me. My own home theater could really benefit from these tools. It's only been a few weeks since ISF posted me as a certified calibration technician at their website, and I've already received phone calls from users asking me to calibrate their displays. Obviously, the equipment is not cheap, yet installers and those interested in calibrating displays and/or setting up sound systems can really profit from this growing industry once they become certified.
