Multimedia Information Infrastructure
This page provides URL's of Web sites relating to signal processing and the international information infrastructure, where "information" means multimedia signals: speech, audio, images, video, graphics, text, and others, and where "infrastructure" refers primarily to the internet and intranets and the transmission and storage channels that connect to them. The list began with a 1994 NSF Panel on Signal Processing and the National Information Infrastructure . A wealth of information on the NII can be found at The Digital Information Infrastructure Guide The list was further developed as a supplement to conference presentations at the International Conference on Telecommunications (ICT) in Istanbul , Turkey, 15 April 1996, and subsequently for the (ICICS), 9-12 September 1997 in Singapore. The emphasis and title have evolved to reflect the lack of boundaries to the information infrastructure and importance of diverse signals or "multimedia" as well as on individual signal types. The slides for the Singapore talk provide a guided tour through some of the links of this page. (Also available are the slides used for my day long tutorial

8. Introduction To Signal Processing
Book by Sophocles J. Orfanidis.

Introduction to
Signal Processing
Sophocles J. Orfanidis
Preface
This book provides an applications-oriented introduction to digital signal processing written primarily for electrical engineering undergraduates. Practicing engineers and graduate students may also find it useful as a first text on the subject. Digital signal processing is everywhere. Today's college students hear "DSP" all the time in their everyday life - from their CD players, to their electronic music synthesizers, to the sound cards in their PCs. They hear all about "DSP chips", "oversampling digital filters", "1-bit A/D and D/A converters", "wavetable sound synthesis", "audio effects processors", "all-digital audio studios". By the time they reach their junior year, they are already very eager to learn more about DSP.
Approach
The learning of DSP can be made into a rewarding, interesting, and fun experience for the student by weaving into the material several applications, such as the above, that serve as vehicles for teaching the basic DSP concepts, while generating and maintaining student interest. This has been the guiding philosophy and objective in writing this text. As a result, the book's emphasis is more on signal processing than discrete-time system theory, although the basic principles of the latter are adequately covered. The book teaches by example and takes a hands-on practical approach that emphasizes the

Numerics for RAD Object oriented numerical library for Delphi and CBuilder Dew Research developes an object oriented numerical library for Borland Delphi Pascal and CBuilder named MtxVec. MtxVec will also support Kylix and .Net with all major .Net languages (VC++, C#, VB ) in the near future! The library was designed with speed and ease of use in mind.
"MtxVec was created because of the growing need to shorten the development time of commercial scientific application." MtxVec features: Built-in multithreading, intelligent object handling, CPU specific optimized code, designed for large data sets with complete vector/matrix arithmetic, a very tight integration with TeeChart further simplifying and speeding up the charting and no royalties for distribution of compiled binaries.
Last modified : 06-Mar-2003 News : February 18th 2003: DSP for MtxVec released.

The broad philosophy of the work is to concentrate on the development of fundamental principles, although such areas of research are often identified from particular applications. As a result of this approach, the results of a number of research projects have been exploited commercially either by established companies or by companies established specifically for the purpose. Current research themes include:
Audio and Image processing and coding Image segmentation Nonstationary, nonlinear, non-gaussian signal processing. Featured Product: External Timing Channels on the iDSC 1816
The iDSC 1816 samples eight channels simultaneously, with 16-bit resolution and an overall throughput of 1.2M samples per second. The data stream optionally includes an additional 300k samples per second: information from one or two external timing channels, identified in the connector diagram as pins 12 and 13. Software can parse the data stream to correlate the analog data with events on one or both of the timing channels, to a resolution of 51 nanoseconds. The one or two optional timing signal inputs make the iDSC 1816 an excellent choice for applications that monitor vibration in rotating assemblies - in the automotive, aerospace, and power generation industries, for example.
