  • Full-time Faculty North Lake College and NEC, America, Inc. have established a partnership to provide opportunities for interested and qualified students to acquire the required educational background in preparation for well paying jobs in the high-tech electronic telecommunications industry. The partnership will make possible a technical degree program in Electronic Telecommunications - Convergence Technology. "Convergence Technology" refers to the fact that present day processor chips have been introduced into every aspect of electronic telecommunications. The result of this revolution is to enhance the processing of combinations of voice, video, and data communications through the convergence of technologies from multiple disciplines to create the field of "Digital Telephony." The industry needs skilled, high performing individuals with specialized training. Holders of Associate Degrees in entry level positions typically secure salaries in the upper $20K range, with high performers having the potential to earn up to or beyond $50K. Employment opportunities exist in a wide-ranging number of small and large companies, both in the DFW metroplex and across the nation. The demand for knowledgeable technicians far exceeds the supply.
