Century Family
Ramsey, Koenig roots run deep at Pingree
By Cherry Sokoloski
North Forty News
When Frank Koenig came to Pingree in 1911 as a trapper, he stayed with the Ramsey family. He married Hazel and made his living by trapping and running cattle, later working as a ranger for the U.S. Forest Service. When Hugh died in the 1930s, the Koenigs held on to their property but the family sold the remainder of the Ramsey Ranch to a logger and sawmill operator named Starkey.
Ramsey legacy
The Ramsey and Koenig pioneers were an industrious lot and left a significant legacy in the Poudre Canyon. Hugh built Twin Lakes, Hourglass Lake and Brown Lake. He, his brother Charlie and some of their children also built the old road over Pingree Pass to Buckhorn and down to Masonville. Frank Koenig continued the legacy. As a ranger, he built many back country trails including one from Pingree Park to Estes Park. Using prison labor, he turned the trail from Poudre Canyon to Pingree Park into a road. He also ran the first phone lines to Pingree Park. Hazel Koenig showed plenty of ingenuity, too. She earned income for the family by renting out cabins to fishermen and by catching and selling butterflies. Also, she made sure her children were educated. The Koenigs and a few neighboring ranchers convinced the county to form a school district at Pingree Park, and the children went to school each year from June to November. The old school building still stands.

Dr. Chris Ramsey Nolan North
Chris has one motto look out for number one! Although a talented doctor, Chris is greedy and manipulative and will stop at almost nothing to get what he wants! Chris became very curious over Matt's continued reluctance to talk about his past. Matt was actually a member of the Witness Protection Program and had once testified against the powerful Mancusi family in Philadelphia. Chris was determined to take Matt out of the running for the Quartermaine Residency and to get him to leave Port Charles for good. Chris anonymously informed the Mancusi family of Matt's whereabouts. A short time later, Matt's brother, Bobby Mancusi, arrived in Port Charles. Mike, Ellen and Grace all placed their lives in danger by helping their friend Matt but Chris inadvertently led Bobby straight to him. A gunfight ensued in which Grace was injured and Matt shot and killed Bobby. Chris continued to make trouble for Matt as he saw him as stiff competition. Chris secretly snapped photos of Matt and Ellen in a compromising position and posted them around the hospital. The scandal knocked Matt out of the running for the Quartermaine Residency and Chris was awarded the title. When the truth about what Chris had done came to light, he was stripped of the prize and it was awarded to Eve.

"Addicted to War

"The mainstream media, or corporate media (as some refer to it), will not tell these truths because it is owned by the very corporations who benefit from all of this. When it comes to foreign policy, the mainstream media gets its stories straight from the Pentagon and the CIA. We have been taught all our lives that the US fights for freedom and democracy, that we are the good guys. And since so many people in America are doing well, do have freedom, opportunity and wealth, or are just trying to get by, there is very little motivation to look into the things being said on this tape.
"I believe that Americans are living in a state of mass denial, kind of a mass hypnosis. It is the BIG LIE! If Dan Rather, Peter Jennings, Tom Brokaw, and Ted Kopple aren’t telling us these things, then they cannot be true. And that is how it works. The people who are attempting to get this message out are labeled as crackpots, radicals, subversives, or worse, and are not given the opportunity to be heard on the mainstream media.
"If you are interested in knowing this other truth, horrible as it is, then I suggest that you watch this video. These atrocities supported by our system, with our tax dollars, will continue until the American people wake up and put a stop to this evil. The first step is to understand that this is really happening. We have been lied to! I believe the people on this video are telling the truth and it’s absolutely frightening."

You're one of six people at a dinner party. You look across the table at your five companions. You would undoubtedly find that the dinner party includes either a group of at least three people who all know one another or a group of at least three people who don't know one another. The reason for this certainty lies in a mathematical proof that any gathering of six people will always automatically include one or the other of these two groupings. No such guarantee is possible when five or fewer people are present. To prove that any party of six must contain at least three acquaintances or at least three strangers, you could write down all the possible combinations, starting with a group in which everyone knows one another. However, there are 32,768 such possibilities. This number reflects the fact that any pair in a group of six must be either acquainted or strangers. Moreover, there are six choices of people for the first member of a pair, which leaves five choices for the second member of the pair, for a total of 30 possibilities. Because the order of the choices in a particular case doesn't matter (picking Alice first and then Barry is the same as picking Barry, then Alice), the number of possibilities that count is down to 30/2, or 15. Overall, for two possible relations (stranger or acquaintance), the number of possibilities is 2 , or 32,768.

Teaching the Ramsey Growth Model using Linked Mathcad Worksheets
    Paul Turner
Department of Economics, University of Sheffield
    Introduction
Ramsey's (1928) model of optimal economic growth has, over the last 10-15 years, become the central organising framework of mainstream macroeconomic research. However, large numbers of postgraduate students and even more undergraduates remain largely unaware of its influence or even its existence. The reason is simple-the Ramsey model requires a level of mathematical technique which is well beyond that taught in most mainstream undergraduate economics degrees. Such a disparity between the models used for research and those taught to students should be a matter for concern. Even if we cannot convey the full mathematical complexity of a model to students, surely we should at least try to convey to them the flavour of its results and its implications for the subject as a whole. In this paper, I will set up a possible route by which this can be achieved using linked Mathcad worksheets. The aim is to enable the problem to be studied at two levels-one worksheet solves the full mathematical problem, thus giving a level of treatment appropriate for postgraduate students, while the second hides the mathematical detail in favour of examining of the responses of the main variables of the system to changes in the parameters of the system. This second level could be used to convey the main points of the model to undergraduate students without alienating them by the use of complicated mathematics.
