Foxhunting has been in my blood ever since the age of 12..
but I won't tell you how long ago that was (!)
My father introduced me to the great world of horses
at three and that love and admiration
continues to grow as I get older.. and older.
My greatest hope, in formatting these series, is that I'll be
able to pass on whatever knowledge I may have gleaned
from all my time spent with these fantastic animals.
The Series is dedicated to:
My father
who kept the flames fanned... and always insisted that I remount after a fall... To my mother
who kept her fears to herself... and managed to be there to dry my tears... To my children
who've tried very hard to keep the legacy alive... To all those endless teachers and judges  who had so much faith in my abilities... To the past members   of the Beaufort Hunt   who so patiently managed to correct my mistakes in the hunt field... To "Valley Miss"   my first real "teacher" and hunt field companion...

Foxhunting is numerically the strongest of the hound sports with some 190 registered packs. Most packs are followed on horseback. The day starts with a Meet - which may be at a pub or a farm.
The hunting of foxes with hounds for sport became popular over two hundred years ago. But it continues to thrive because the fox is a serious predator that must be controlled and most farmers and landowners welcome hunts on their land. Some packs are traditionally hunted on foot - particularly in the Fells and parts of Wales where the terrain is not suited to horses - but mounted packs will also go out on foot when conditions are not suitable for horses.
Each hunt has its own designated area, which is called the 'hunt country.' After the Meet, hounds are taken to an area (the covert) where foxes are thought likely to be found. This is called 'the draw'. Hunt followers are there for the ride - the huntsman and his assistants (called 'whippers-in) are responsible for hunting the hounds. The mounted followers (called 'the field') are under the control of a Field Master and must be kept far enough away from hounds so they can work safely. There will be between 30 and 40 hounds - but they are always counted in - and referred to as - couples.

The number of animals killed in the course of organised foxhunting is remarkably small - considering the fuss! At least 200,000 foxes die as a result of man's activities each year - around 10% through hunting with hounds. Others will die of 'natural causes' - disease and starvation! These deaths are far slower and far more unpleasant than those inflicted by hounds.
About 14,000-15,000 foxes a year are killed by MFHA packs and a further 7,000-10,000 by other registered packs. About a third of the foxes killed by MFHA hunts are dug out and shot but the percentages vary significantly in different parts of the country, ranging from 18% in the East Midlands to 77% in mid-Wales. (Game Conservancy Trust study.) The study showed that, for upland Wales, the east Midlands and west Norfolk, respectively, 35%, 15% and 3% of foxes culled were killed by methods involving the foxhounds, whereas 10%, 3% and 7% involved digging-out with terriers outside the context of the hunt. The proportions for those shot with a rifle (including spot lamping) were 21%, 53% and 64%, and for shotguns (when foxes were driven, usually by hounds, onto standing guns) were 25%, 9% and 4%. Snares accounted for 3%, 13% and 9%. Just over half the foxes killed were in their second year.

A ban on foxhunting, proposed in England and recently passed by lawmakers in Scotland, reflects a majority view that killing animals for sport is a cruel and uncivilized pastime. The age-old tradition, spread worldwide during Great Britain's empire-building days, has its U.S. counterpart. Foxhunting in the States is steeped in tradition from the motherland, but with one important difference: The purpose is to chase, but not kill, the fox. Guardian Unlimited' Red foxes were imported from England because the native grey fox climbs trees, making the hunt exceedingly difficult. This one was photographed in Montana.

... CONTACT US W E L C O M E The International Riding Camp was established in 1978 for girls who love horses and riding. The camp provides the environment in which horse lovers can experience various riding disciplines: hunt seat equitation, side-saddle, polo and foxhunting. It is unusual for a camp to offer so many equestrian experiences, but we believe that a developing rider should be able to learn as much as possible about horses and the different ways they are used. Our methods of teaching riding enable students to experience success in graduated steps promoting their self esteem and confidence. Girls will use the riding skills they learn at this camp the rest of their lives. International Riding Camp is accredited by the American Camping Association.

Seberapa pentingkah tehnik RDF?
