The Benefits of Weight Training Improving or maintaining health should be a primary goal of an exercise program. Health not only refers to the absence of disease or illness but may include the way a person feels about their body, their confidence about participating in a variety of activities, and their overall attitude towards life. For many people feeling physically fit and strong is part of being a well-rounded, confident person. Resistance training (weight training) can play an important role in the development of self-confidence and body satisfaction by increasing strength, building and toning muscles, and increasing muscular endurance. It can also help maintain lean body mass (important for individuals attempting weight loss), decrease the risk of osteoporosis, develop coordination and balance, and prevent injuries resulting from weak muscles. It has been an unfortunate turn of events currently for Health Fit 1, staff, and members. I realize that everyone is anxious for answers and I pray that my explanation will ease some of the frustration you all must be experiencing at this time. UPDATE 3-13-03 We submitted proposals to our attorney and those proposals were forwarded to the attorney representing the owner of the property. Their atty. should contact the owner and we should receive a reply by Friday 3-14-03. If the terms are approved it is possible we could open as soon as the weekend. Thank you for your patience. UPDATE 3-14-03 We have contacted both the YMCA and Van’s Gym regarding alternative places to workout. Both have decided not to accommodate HF members. I do understand their response simply because their facility will not handle all HF members and would only succeed in disrupting services to their present members. The proposals we submitted Friday, 3-14-03, were countered by the owner with alternative proposals. It is time consuming and I apologize but we are working diligently to resolve the dispute. In the meantime we will authorize ASF (the billing company) to stop drafting accounts until Health Fit is re-opened. Thank you and I apologize for your delays.

Weight Training Guidelines and Programs
  • Workout Routine: Warm-up (aerobic) - five minutes low intensity to break a sweat. (Examples: running, cycling, walking, etc.) Pre-exercise stretching - hold at a gentle stretch for a ten count; do one to two repetitions of each stretch, no bouncing. Stretch muscles that you'll be using during your workout. (Example: hamstrings, calves, quads and chest.) Weight training - choose from programs described on the back of this page. Post exercise stretching/strengthening - 1 to 2 minutes/muscle group for stretching, and add abdominal and low back strengthening if they have not been included in your weight training routine. Number of exercises for each muscle group per session: From 1 to 3. Order of exercises: Start with large or multiple muscle groups (chest), followed by small muscle group (triceps). Amount of weight: The correct weight should produce fatigue by the last repetition in each set, or determine resistance by using a percentage (typically 60-80%) of your one repetition maximum. (Example: If you can lift a maximum of 50 lbs. one time during leg extension, 70% of that would be 35 lbs.) Rest: 48 to 72 hours between workout sessions for each muscle group.
