Extractions: The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs, lying below the waist on either side of the spinal column on the back wall of the abdomen. They are soft, reddish brown in colour, and, on an average, measure 10 cm. in length, 6 cm. in width and is 2.5 cm. thick at its centre. They are filtering plants for purifying the blood, removing water and salts from it which are passed into the bladder as urine. Symptoms Kidney stones usually cause severe pain in their attempt to pass down the ureter on their way to the bladder. The pain is first felt in the side and thereafter in the groin and thighs. Other symptoms of kidney stones are a desire to urinate frequently, painful urination , scanty urination, nausea, vomiting, sweating, chills and shocks. The patient may also pass blood with the urine. Sometimes, large stones may remain in the kidneys without causing any trouble and these are known as silent stones. Causes The formation of stones in the kidneys is the result of defects in the general metabolism. They usually occur when the urine becomes highly concentrated due to heavy perspiration or insufficient intake of fluids. They are aggravated by a sedentary lifestyle. The other causes are wrong diet, excess intake of acid-forming foods, white flour and sugar products, meat, tea, coffee, condiments and spices, rich foods and overeating. Lack of vitamin A and an excessive intake of vitamin B may also lead to formation of stones.

Doctors are not always able to identify the cause of kidney stones in every person. While certain foods may promote stone formation in people who are susceptible, researchers do not believe that eating any specific food causes stones to form in people who are not susceptible. However, a person with a family history of kidney stones may be more likely to develop stones.

Extractions: Your kidneys are a pair of apple-sized organs that flank your spine just above the waist. They filter your blood, cleaning about 1,800 quarts a day-more than a quart every minute. Kidneys get rid of excess water and waste products, which become urine in the kidneys before leaving the body. Most of the time, this process works smoothly. Sometimes, though, hard lumps called kidney stones form, which can cause pain and block the flow of urine. These stones result from a buildup of certain substances, such as calcium phosphate, in the urine. Kidney stones can be as small as a grain of sand or as large as a golf ball. If a stone loosens from one of the kidney walls or breaks into pieces, it may go down a ureter, one of two narrow tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder. If it's small, it may pass from your body without your even knowing it. These types of stones are called "silent" kidney stones. But in other cases, severe pain results as a stone moves down a ureter. Sometimes, a stone gets stuck in the kidney at the entrance to the ureters or inside one of the ureters. This is called a ureteral stone. If the stone creates a blockage, it may lead to an infection that can do serious damage to the kidneys. Then the stone may have to be removed.
