Product Description
"I don't want to do anything subversive - I just want to destroy capitalism." A collection of 'ultra' prose and poetry from 300 years of outrage, passion, sarcasm and wit. Quotes, rants, declarations and blood-curdling warcries. This is utterly brilliant, and is finally reprinted here (from an obscure edition first published in the 60s) in a new edition edited, introduced, and illustrated by Clifford Harper. "Death to middle-class society, and long live anarchism!" ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting
This book provides an interesting survey of the ideas of Stirner, Nietzsche, and Dostoevsky, asserting that they advocate individualist anarchism on psychological grounds. This is certainly true of Stirner, andprobably true of Nietzsche (though he can be interpreted in other ways),but rather odd for Dostoevsky. In any case it makes good reading for anyoneinterested in psychology and anarchism. Also present are some briefcomparisons with later psychologists of freedom. ... Read more

Stirner's main work is The Ego and Its Own, also known as The Ego and His Own (Der Einzige und sein Eigentum in German, which translates literally as The Only One and his Property). Johann Kaspar Schmidt (1806-1856), better known as Max Stirner (the nom de plume he adopted from a schoolyard nickname he had acquired as a child because of his high brow, in German 'Stirn'), was a German philosopher, who ranks as one of the literary grandfathers of nihilism, existentialism, post-modernism and anarchism, especially of individualist anarchism. In 1842 his first work, Das Unwahre Prinzip Unserer Erziehung (The False Principle of Our Education) or Humanism and Realism, edited by Marx, was published. His main work, Der Einzige und sein Eigentum (The Ego and Its Own, also known as The Ego and His Own), was published in 1844 in Leipzig. In it he launches a radical anti-authoritarian and individualist critique of contemporary Prussian society, and modern western society as such. He offers an approach to human existence which depicts the self as a creative non-entity, beyond language and reality. His other works include Art and Religion (1842), Recensenten Stirners (Stirner's Critics) (1845) and Geschichte der Reaction (History of Reaction) (1851). ... Read more
