The formal opening of the mission work took place on August 7, 1851 (Badley, 1931). The school building was later determined to be inadequate, and another building was secured (Badley, 1931). In 1851, the mission scholars numbered 87, under Mr. Rebsch, who served as schoolmaster and mission assistant until the end of 1851 (Badley, 1931). In 1852, an Indian headmaster was appointed for the Almora mission school (Badley, 1931). In 1871, the mission school was relocated to a more spacious building in the center of town, on a site formerly occupied by the palace of the Almora rajas, and later by Government buildings (Badley, 1931). In 1886, the high school became known as Ramsay College and was affiliated with Calcutta University (Lovett, 1899; Badley, 1931). Mrs. John Henry Budden, assisted by her daughter, Mary Budden, and by Mrs. Mather of the LMS in Mirzapur, started a Girls' School (Badley, 1931). When Mrs. Budden died in 1859, her daughters continued the work of the school (Lovett, 1899). By 1909, the girls' school, which was then supervised by Mary Budden, had 117 scholars (Walton, 1911; Badley, 1931). Mary Budden also established a Hospital for Women (Badley, 1931).     Extractions: Attoh Ahuma was a ghanaian churchman, a journalist and a celebrated nationalist campaigner. Originally his name was Samuel R. B. Solomon, born on 22 December 1963, son of the Reverend James Solomon of the Wesleyan Methodist Church. After going to school at the Wesleyan elementary school and high school in Cape Coast and then at Richmond College in the same town, he was ordained a minister in 1888. In the 1890s Reverend Solomon became a celebrated journalist and a nationalist campaigner. He edited the Gold Coast Methodist Times and used it to protest against British rule. In 1897 the newspaper headed the campaign against the Lands Bill and Reverend Solomon helped found the Aborigines Rights Protection Society (ARPS) to protest against the bill. After an article entitled "Colony or Protectorate: Which?" the Wesleyan Mission authorities, upset at Reverend Solomon's political activism, removed him from the ministry that same year. The Methodist Times collapsed when he ceased to be editor.

Baltimore American often declared that "It is the same old law of the survival of the fittest. The weak must bend to the strong and today the American race is the sturdiest, the noblest on earth." American and European imperialism fed upon such logic of white supremacy. American Sociological Review determined that "slavery was the most humane and the most practical method ever devised for ‘bearing the white man’s burden.’" During the age of imperialism, American and European imperialists easily transferred such racial attitudes to people of color across the globe, making the subjugation of entire populations part of the national duty. In response to the global epidemic of racism, AME leaders and other African American leaders became global spokespersons for people of color, speaking out against racism from a context of global oppression. Many within AME circles linked international issues to domestic issues and concluded that racial violence and the denial of rights against African Americans were manifestations of a worldwide movement against darker people, an attempt to subjugate and dominate darker people because of perceived white superiority. To combat this, AME members organized a communication network, buoyed by the weekly newspaper

Noah Levings learned that the pioneer of Methodism here was Thomas Webb, a captain in the British army, who began to preach "in his own hired house," near the barracks, in New York, as early as 1766. Subsequently he visited Brooklyn, then a rural hamlet, and preached salvation, by grace through faith, to the Dutch inhabitants; how often, we know not, but it is certain that he formed no class here. He afterwards visited Newtown, and Jamaica, in which place he planted the gospel; large crowds everywhere being drawn together to see and listen to a preacher uniting in himself the apparently irreconcilable characters Of warrior and a messenger of peace. The second man of whose preaching in Brooklyn we have any information, was Woolman Hickson, who is described as having a promising genius, and considerable abilities as a preacher; but he was snatched away from his useful career, by consumption, having labored seven months in the ministry. His first sermon in Brooklyn was delivered in the open air from a table, in what is now called Sands street, and directly in front of the site of the present Methodist Episcopal church. An offer made by him, at the close of his discourse, to visit the village again, if any one present would open their house for preaching, was accepted by a Mr. Peter Cannon, a cooper, living near the ferry. And at his cooper shop, which he prepared for the accommodation of the people as best he could, the early disciples of Methodism worshiped for some time. Mr. Hickson, in a short time, about 785 or '86, formed a class of several members, and from that time Brooklyn continued to be visited occasionally by the preachers stationed in New York. The whole of Long Island, at that time, formed but one circuit, having a single preacher attached to it.
