New article in Advanced Materials
In this paper, we report the success of synthesizing stable Wurtzite structured nanobelts, nanocombs and nanowindmills, using a simple catalyst-free thermal evaporation technique. The structures of these characteristic shapes have been fully characterized. Detailed study on the phase transformation from Wurtzite to zinc blend is presented. It is anticipated that these novel structures will have some unique applications in nanophotonics. Nanobelts, Nanocombs, and Nano-windmills of Wurtzite ZnS Christopher Ma Daniel Moore , Jing Li Zhong L. Wang
New article in Micron
Nanobelts are new materials that have a rectangular cross-section and are characterized by widths and width-to-thickness aspect ratios. In this paper, the thickness and aspect ratios of ZnO nanobelts are measured by a conjunction application of convergent beam electron diffraction (CBED) and electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS). The thicknesses of thicker nanobelts are first determined by CBED under two-beam diffracting condition, then they are used to determine the electron inelastic mean-free-path (MFP) length, which is 161 ^ 15 nm for ZnO at 200 kV. The thicknesses of the thinner nanobelts are then determined by EELS using the calibrated MFP. The results show that the aspect ratio depends on conditions under which the sample was synthesized.

Dr C W K Lam has been a senior lecturer (designated Professor II) in the department since 1983. He began his career in clinical biochemistry in 1970 at the Southampton General Hospital, UK, where he completed a PhD thesis on heavy-chain disease proteins in 1974. This was followed by an appointment as Clinical Biochemist at the Singapore General Hospital from 1975 prior to his taking up the present position. Like other colleagues in the department, Dr Lam fulfils a tripartite responsibility in teaching of medical students and MSc candidates in clinical biochemistry, serving as Honorary Chief of Service and Duty Biochemist, and participating in research activities. His research interests in immunology, lipidology and endocrinology have accrued from his PhD work, a sabbatical period as Australian Heart Foundation Fellow in lipidology from 1992-93, and his interdepartmental collaboration with colleagues of this university. We have made antibodies to the HD protein and are studying its cell biology and biochemistry. We are using the yeast two-hybrid system and co-immunoprecipitation to identify proteins which interact with the HD protein. We are also cloning genes with triplet repeats from brain cDNA libraries as candidates for additional diseases. This approach has yielded the gene for an HD-like disease called dentatorubral pallidoluysian atrophy (DRPLA), whose gene product we are studying using methods similar to those for HD. No, that's not the way this thing works as explained earlier. You
can can set your header from (i.e., the only one anyone else will
ever see) to whatever you want. You can even leave it null and
become 'undisclosed-receipients' if you want to.
