Manuel E. Bermudez, University of Florida "This book is really a pleasure to read...It is so clearly and directly written that we could certainly use it for the beginners in CS 302...(a 'CS 1' course)." Carolyn Rosner, University of Wisconsin Illinois Wesleyan University "The manuscript offers a very complete and clear coverage of the C language, perhaps better than any I have come across...The author's excellent treatment of programming style and coding conventions...is perfect for any audience." Henry H. Leitner, Harvard University "I am impressed by what I have read, and will be among your first customers when the book appears." Steven C. Cater

    History
C's power and flexibility soon became apparent. Because of this, the Unix operating system which was originally written in assembly language, was almost immediately re-written in C ( only the assembly language code needed to "bootstrap" the C code was kept ). During the rest of the 1970's, C spread throughout many colleges and universities because of it's close ties to Unix and the availability of C compilers. Soon, many different organizations began using their own versions of C causing compatibility problems. In response to this in 1983, the American National Standards Institute ( ANSI ) formed a committee to establish a standard definition of C which became known as ANSI Standard C. Today C is in widespread use with a rich standard library of functions.
    Significant Language Features
C is a powerful, flexible language that provides fast program execution and imposes few constraints on the programmer. It allows low level access to information and commands while still retaining the portability and syntax of a high level language. These qualities make it a useful language for both systems programming and general purpose programs. C's power and fast program execution come from it's ability to access low level commands, similar to assembly language, but with high level syntax. It's flexibility comes from the many ways the programmer has to accomplish the same tasks. C includes bitwise operators along with powerful pointer manipulation capabilities. C imposes few constraints on the programmer. The main area this shows up is in C's lack of type checking. This can be a powerful advantage to an experienced programmer but a dangerous disadvantage to a novice.

    Description:
This hands-on ANSI C programming course provides a comprehensive introduction to the C language, emphasizing portability and structured design. Thorough treatment is given to the topics of string and character manipulation, dynamic memory allocation, standard I/O, macro definition, the C runtime library, and ANSI C specifications, especially where they differ from older C implementations. The course explains the use of aggregate structures, unions, and pointers early on so the students can practice extensively in the hands on labs. Structured programming constructs and varargs functions are also covered. Emphasis is given to the processing of command line arguments and environment variables so students will be able to write flexible, user-friendly programs. The course also includes coverage of portability tips drawn from experienced programmers working in production environments.

    Abstract
This paper describes a hypertext based system for teaching the C programming language. The course is presented using the Mosaic World Wide Web browser and differs from a conventional hypertext based course in that the material is individualised for each user. When a user first begins the course they follow a standard path and are asked, using HTML-based forms, a series of questions about their background and knowledge of programming. The answers to these questions then direct the system to present subsequent questions to explore the relevant knowledge more deeply. After this phase the main C course is entered but the user's view of the material is tailored according to the answers given in the initial phase. During the course the user is given tasks to test their knowledge of the material. This in turn tailors the later material. For example, poor solutions to tasks mean that sections of the course are repeated possibly with different examples. The system makes heavy use of the server's ability to execute a program to generate a hypertext object. A user modelling system maintains information about the student.

If I posted a link to this page in reply to a message you posted on a programming newsgroup, it seemed to me that you were asking for someone to do your programming homework for you. Your post probably looked like one of the following: You typed in your assignment word-for-word. You complained that your instructor is stupid, but your instructor is smarter than you are, he or she already knows how to write this program! Your post looked like a thinly disguised attempt into fooling somebody into thinking that it is not your homework.

This web page is for people who know one language and are wondering about learning another. It describes some of the differences between common programming languages and considers why and how a new language should be learnt. It is not a detailed, scholarly exploration of all programming languages, nor does it describe the latest developments in computer science - I simply do not know enough to attempt that. Instead, I have tried to write something that is clear, unbiased, and useful to someone with no knowledge of the theory of computing. If you're not that interested in actually writing code and are looking for a more general article, focusing on the "philosophical" aspects of programming languages, then you will be much happier with this book review
      Initial Questions
Why are there so many different programming languages? What is the difference between them? How do people learn them? Which should people learn? Should they learn more than one?

    Introduction
Every year since 1977, the ACM has organized the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest . This contest, which consists of a regional qualifying contest and the Finals, provides college students with the opportunity to demonstrate and sharpen their programming skills. During this contest, teams consisting of three students and one computer are to solve as many of the given problems as possible within 5 hours. The team with the most problems solved wins, where ``solved'' means producing the right outputs for a set of (secret) test inputs. Though the individual skills of the team members are important, in order to be a top team it is necessary to make use of synergy within the team. As participants in the 1995 Contest Finals (two of us also participated in the 1994 Finals), we have given a lot of thought to strategy and teamwork. In this article we summarize our observations from various contests, and we hope that if you ever participate in this contest (or any other) that this information will be valuable to you.

    A Brief Introduction
Welcome to The Programming Resevoir! Thank you in advance for visiting my programming website. My name is Kurt Kruger and I am a *budding* 18 year old self-taught computer programmer from South Africa (now you understand why my code is so sloppy). This website will, in future, be dedicated to games and more specifically, 2D and 3D graphics programming - not that I know much about the latter. Since I have recently completed my matric final exams, I'll have plenty of time to improve upon this site, so watch this space for updates! To other matters...if there are any demo groups out there on the lookout for new memebers I would be very happy to join. Even if I don't get involved with any public coding, I am very eager to learn new techniques and tips. NOTE! This page is still under construction, so certain portions will not be navigable yet. I'm still trying to complete most of the progamming documents, but hopefully everything will be up and running within the week. Still, have a look at the downloads section; you might find something useful.

Just to let you know, I don't believe in having 1 zelda page for all six zelda's, people spread themselves to thin when they do that, one page per one game. For more information please visit Here
